Guided Wave Pipe Corrosion Inspection System
FOCUS+ is the first commercial product offering all the benefits of the conventional guided wave screening technology with the added feature of focusing sound energy into specific regions of pipes to measure the distribution of corrosion around the circumference at a specific distance. This proves especially valuable where pipes are inaccessible, enabling inspectors to make more informed decisions about the need for further action.
The FOCUS+ unit incorporates all the feedback from operators. The computer-controlled unit is battery operated and equipped with an integrated pump for collar inflation. The device also contains GPS location and is simple to connect. Permanently wired in octants, the unit has the capability of focusing without the need for reconfiguration.
- ISO9712 Training Scheme
- Internal electric pump for inflation of collars
- Wireless capabilities
- Octant inspection for full A-scans
- Secondary focusing technique unique to FOCUS+
- Longitudinal and torsional wave modes
The FOCUS+ electronics offer more capabilities over rival products on the market. In addition to the usual testing features, the FOCUS+ electronics are comprised of 24 transmit channels and 24 receive channels with an additional onboard switching capability. The frequency range 10–300 kHz.
This makes FOCUS+ the only equipment that can simultaneously operate in longitudinal and torsional wave mode testing. The 5-ring torsional modules with transducers at two different spacings (30 mm and 45 mm/1.2 in and 1.8 in) provide better penetration in high attenuation pipelines (e.g., buried).
The FOCUS+ software is designed with the operator in mind. The user-friendly tools guide operators through setup and automatically perform most functions without the need for user input. In addition, focusing on localized areas is just one click away.
The collars combine the latest carbon-Kevlar® composite material and a latch design for a one-piece tool with a light and easy-to-use an integral bladder. Using the latest CAD software allowed to improve coupling between the guided wave transducers and the pipe surface, maximizing the signal's amplitude.
The collars incorporate Multi-Mode™ and 5-ring torsional modules generating torsional and longitudinal wave modes, offering operators the versatility to make more informed judgements. Light Mini-Test collars and modules can inspect pipe with a size diameter of 48.3–114.3 mm (1.5–4.0 in). High-tech carbon fiber composite collars can, on the other hand, inspect pipe sizes 168.3–610.0 mm (6–24 in) in diameter and are designed to be daisy chained together to inspect pipe sizes up to 2m (78in) in diameter (two and three-collar configurations).
Eddyfi Technologies offers the full spectrum of support to our customers. We have the ability to train, mentor, rent additional equipment, supply trained technicians for overspill work, and review L2/L3 reports. Anything to enable our customers to provide the best guided wave inspections to theirs. Finally, if there is a failure, we can respond quickly with backup equipment and fix the problem.
Training and Certification
Eddyfi Technologies offers CSWIP certified training. Personnel with levels 1, 2, or 3 FOCUS+ technique training may be examined and, if successful, certified. Examination eligibility requirements, examination format, and rules governing certificate validity and renewal comply, as a minimum, with ISO 9712(1) and EN 473(2). This certification offers you the assurance that technicians are competent with the technique, which serves to give you the best available results for each inspection.
